Schools are businesses too

Alistair Kent |

Often in the business world, it’s easy to forget that all types of organisations also rely on – and deserve the same high level of – technology and insight in order to run smoothly.

Take academies and schools for example; in many ways, they are involved in more invoicing and supplier relationships than many small businesses of a similar size. Complex supply networks mean that they have to have a firm grasp on their cash flow in order to operate successfully. Stationery, supply teachers, sports equipment, contractors for building works – the list of suppliers that the average school or academy has to deal with is long.

Some businesses have the luxury of saving for a rainy day – but when the curriculum is updated and an entire raft of textbooks need changing, schools need to act instantly.

This isn’t a fact lost on Dafydd Llewellyn, MD of UK SMB here at Concur. In this piece from QA Education, Dafydd explores the ways in which technology can provide a crucial service within the education sector. Because just like smaller businesses, the education sector would be all the healthier through the use of automation to combat wasted time, mistakes and fraud, all the while providing a deeper level of analysis than possible through traditional means.
